jason_smoots.jpgDr. Greenapple, Dr. Duffy and their staff helped me to recover from an injury quickly. Their expertise and advanced equipment is what I needed to make that happen. They are the ones that I go to in order to stay balanced and well tuned."

I am a division I track and field athlete at UNC Charlotte. I throw the shot put, discus, and hammer. I have a herniated disc. As a thrower I need to do a lot of heavy lifting, including squats, cleans, and snatches. When I came to Dr. Duffy, I could not do any of those lifts. Dr. Duffy has allowed me to aggressively rehab my back. Anytime that I push it too hard, I come see him and I'm ready to start pushing my back again. Since beginning treatment I have seen tremendous gains in strength in my back. My back is stronger now than it ever was before I herniated my disc. The other week I did a back squat of 465lbs, a clean of 265lbs, and a snatch of 195lbs. My back felt fine the next day. These accomplishments could not have been possible without the aid of Dr. Duffy. There has not been a time that I have come to Dr. Duffy with an injury and not seen improvement. Whatever the problem, he has a solution. He's both skilled and knowledgeable. He knows a lot of stretches and exercises to help heal and/or prevent an injury. On his website it says, "His job is described as helping everybody else do what they want to do. He has most certainly done this for me. In addition to being a master of his craft, Dr. Duffy is also very friendly and enjoyable to talk to. I look forward to my appointments. Not only for the treatment, but just to be able to talk to him. Dr. Duffy always enthusiastically greets me with a smile and is genuinely interested in my life. I am glad that I have been privileged enough to receive Dr. Duffy's services. Without him, it would have been next to impossible to have come as far as I have.

It's Ginger Holloway! I just had to email you and tell you that I finished the White Lake Half Ironman two weeks ago! My time was 6:46 and some odd seconds. As a marathon runner, I was very excited and I wanted to tell you because you have been very instrumental in bringing me back to being able to compete. One more thing...my 1/2 marathon time at White Lake was just a minute slower than the 1/2 Marathon at Myrtle Beach!Wow...I thought that was cool. My shins feel great and I owe that all to you. I never would have gotten back to competition had it not been for you and the cutting edge treatment you offered me. Thanks for giving me back my ability to run!!

After doing well (podiums!) in the first several races of the 2006 Charlotte Summer Mountain Bike Series, I was anxious to do all 16 races of the 2007 series. In 2006 I had also just made the jump up to SuperSport Men. Four days before the first race, I hit a tree going 20 mph (me, not the tree!). The orthopedic guy said I had a major contusion of the clavicular joint of my right shoulder (and several months later it was declared a grade 3 separation). I also immediately made an appointment with Dr. Duffy. The K4 laser kept the pain in check and accelerated the healing. Amazingly, three and a half weeks after my injury, he released me to race. I had missed 3 races, but at least I would make the first double points race and there would be a week off before race 5, giving me a little more time to heal.

I finished 5th in the first race. Race 6 was at the USNWC (white water park). Unbelievably, I led start-to-finish! I was elated with this performance after 3 weeks off the bike due to injury. I think my ortho guy was a little surprised later that I was racing so soon after my injury, and continuously through the summer. I ended up with 5 wins in the series (one more than the overall winner), but could not quite make up for missing three races, so I ended up 2nd overall - my best series finish ever. Periodic laser treatments helped my shoulder as I subjected it to racing throughout the summer.  I have learned anytime I have a soft tissue injury, my best avenue to recovery is getting in to see Dr. Duffy as soon as possible! Not only is this important to shorten the healing process, but also to correct any damage so the healing can begin. So, let the healing begin!

A special thank you to Dr. Mike Duffy of Greenapple Sports and Wellness . The confidence he gives me by making sure my body is in top working order is like a gift. Dr. Duffy pinpoints problems and applies the correct treatments that keep me running comfortably, day after day. I owe this race (Uwharrie 40 Mile Trail Run) to him for being so good at what he does.

Perhaps the easiest way for me to describe what Greenapple Sports & Wellness has done for me is to say this:  for the first time in more than 5 years, I am excited about running.  For someone who enjoyed competing in local road races for 20 years, an extended time away from running and road racing has been one of the most disheartening experiences of my life.

Getting back on the roads was far from easy, however.  Even though Dr. Duffy quickly diagnosed my problems, I needed 6 weeks of treatments at Greenapple Sports & Wellness and plenty of additional stretching routines to reach a point where a 30 minute run was something other than work.  It is also worth noting that Dr Duffy's prior experience as a personal trainer contributed to my recovery.  Without his suggestions, an odd "kink" in my stride might still be a problem.

Overall, I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Duffy and in Greenapple Sports & Wellness.  I highly recommend Greenapple Sports & Wellness to anyone who is either struggling with a sports injury or striving to improve their workouts.

For the past two seasons, Dr. Greenapple has provided additional care for the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Club.  As the head athletic trainer, Michael Derecola, I am pleased and honored to have a great working relationship with Dr. Greenapple.  He has been a tremendous help to myself and the players because of his expertise in sports therapy and rehabilitation.

Throughout my running career, staying on top of the aches and pains associated with high mileage has always been a priority for me. In 1997, I was injured with severe Plantar Fasciits. Dr. Greenapple was able to correctly diagnose the injury the first time, and developed a plan of rehabilitation which got me back out on the roads training and competing! I trust him so much, I recommend him to my customers on a daily basis.

I wanted to give you the update on how I performed at the Marine Corp Marathon.  I ran a conservative race and ran a negative split (2 minutes faster) for the 2nd half of the race.  I got a PR of 3:08:18 (Boston qualifying) and felt good for the entire race. Anyways, thank you for your help in getting me healed and more importantly, for teaching me how to prevent this type of injury in the future.  I will definitely recommend your practice to friends and family.

Thank you for the amazing solutions oriented care you have given me over the years.  I'm the kind of patient that will not make you rich, yet bikes, swims and runs freely because of your holistic approach to therapy.  In this space, I cannot chronicle the many times you helped me get back in the water or on the road.  So let me thank you for bringing me through one set of injuries prior to the Emerald Isle 5 Mile swim.

I trained hard and was more prepared than ever.  Then, two weeks before the race my shoulder, upper and lower back and neck went berserk.   I was sure that after nine months of training for this event and others, all was for naught.  I came to you and through A.R.T. (Active Release Technique) and other magical therapies; I swam out into deep Atlantic water August 10th 2005.  Along with swimming through a swarm of jellyfish, and stroking parallel with four large finned creatures, I felt fabulous, and placed well.

I often brag that I only rush to Greenapple Sports & Wellness when I feel unbearable pain.  I'm not saying that's the correct approach, it's just my nature.  Sometimes one visit does the trick, and other times, like the pre-Emerald Isle debacle, it takes a couple weeks to work out the kinks. I know some folks have chronic situations that take longer to work through, but for someone who despises unnecessary doctor visits, and needs to be fixed here and there, Charlotte athletes are lucky to have you there.  I often hear, "I don't go because once I start, I'll have to keep going forever." In my mind, that's a myth.  If it were true, hundreds of athletes in the area would have to live at 4300 Park Road.

I appreciate how you selflessly teach simple techniques to accelerate the healing.  I would encourage all patients to apply these simple tips.  When my hip was malfunctioning, a simple stair-step exercise corrected the imbalance causing the discomfort in a matter of weeks.  When my "swimmers shoulder" acts up, a simple pressure-point-grinding solves the problem.  You have taught me not to look at the point of the pain, but its origin; or, to think about what activity may be the source of the problem.  Once it was the way I was sitting while working on the computer. I'm sure I'll be back in to see you again . . . real soon.
